Terms of service · updated 19 October 2026

The terms, in plain language.

Using Last Chair means agreeing to the points below. They are short because the product is simple: tools that compute on your own figures, a flat fee, and data we cannot read.

  1. 1.

    Planning tools, not advice

Last Chair provides planning tools, not investment, tax or legal advice. Every figure it shows is computed from what you enter and from assumptions you can change, using public prices and fund data that may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Trades, swaps and routing suggestions are arithmetic on your own policy; whether to act on them is your decision, and we recommend checking anything with tax consequences against your own records or a professional. We are not a broker, an adviser or a fiduciary, and nothing here is an offer to buy or sell any security.

  2. 2.

    Your account

You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address. You choose a passphrase and receive a recovery key; both stay with you. If both are lost, your encrypted household cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe. You are responsible for what happens under your sign-in, and for keeping the email address current.

  3. 3.

    Your data

What you enter belongs to you. We hold it in encrypted form so that it syncs between your devices, and we do not read, sell or share it. You can export it, import an export back, and delete it at any time from Settings. Deletion removes it from our database at once; encrypted copies in our database provider’s backups expire within 30 days and cannot be read by anyone without your passphrase or recovery key. The privacy page describes what we can see and what we cannot.

  4. 4.

    Membership and payment

Membership is one flat fee for the household, billed yearly through Stripe; discount codes, when offered, are entered at checkout. It renews yearly at the membership price until cancelled from the billing portal; cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current year in place. If membership is not for you, write to hello@lastchair.app within 30 days of your first payment and we refund it in full; after that, a year that has begun is not refunded in part. Prices may change for new members. If we close Last Chair, we will give notice, keep export working until the end, and refund the unused part of the current year in proportion.

  5. 5.

    Acceptable use

Use Last Chair for your own household, or for households that have asked you to. Do not try to reach other people’s data, overload the public price cache, or use the service for anything unlawful. We may suspend an account that does, and will say why.

  6. 6.

    Availability and limits

We aim to keep the service running and your data intact. Our database provider keeps encrypted backups for a limited time; they hold your household only as ciphertext, so they guard against our mistakes, not against a lost passphrase. We cannot promise uninterrupted service or that every price and fee is right. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect losses, including investment decisions made with the help of the service.

  7. 7.

    Changes and contact

We may update these terms; material changes are announced on this page and by email to members, and take effect thirty days later. Last Chair is operated by Nate Bowser, a sole proprietor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and any dispute about them is heard in the state or federal courts in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Write to hello@lastchair.app with any question.
